Extension Activities
BRONZE Globe Challenge : Read the information on the links above - and any other websites where you can find information about Deserts. Then produce a 15 Question Quiz on Deserts on one page of a powerpoint or word document, and on the other page put the answers. But mix up all the answers so they are not in the right order. Then give it to your teacher to see if they can answer the questions correctly (you must know the 'right' answers yourself!) If it's a good quiz your teacher might give it to the rest of the class to do.
SILVER Globe Challenge : Collect lots of images or pictures of deserts from around the world to show how different Deserts can be in different countries. Put into a powerpoint or word document. (Try to label where in the world the Desert is in each of your photos. Then write 70 words on the ways in which Deserts are 'similar' around the world.... what do they all have in common?
GOLD Globe Challenge : You have been chosen to speak to some students at a school in the middle of the Australian desert as 'an expert geographer'. They want to know why they have a desert there. Make a powerpoint presentation to explain to the students why they have a desert using your own text and words (you can use some of the images from the powerpoints at the bottom of this page - as well as any others you can find). A group of students ask you how they can stop their desert getting bigger. Create some more slides to show how they can do this - and explain how their actions will help stop the growth of their desert.
